Dry Tortugas Trip

Two or three nights at the Dry Tortugas aboard the Lauren Jeanne. Fish the reefs, wrecks and deep ledges around Fort Jefferson by day and into the night, and sleep aboard.

From
$6,200
Length
3 to 4 days
Group
Up to 6 anglers

You leave Stock Island and run west past the Marquesas to the Dry Tortugas, where the reefs, wrecks and deep ledges see very little pressure. Fish into the evening for snapper, sleep in a bunk with the boat anchored up, and wake up to a full day on the grouper grounds.

Pick the length. The 3-day trip (48 hours) leaves at 2pm and is back at 2pm on the third day, with two nights aboard. The 3½-day trip (64 hours) leaves at 9pm and is back at 2pm on the fourth day, adding a third night and more time on the deep ledges, dropping the electric reels for snowy grouper, yellowedge and golden tilefish. The 4-day trip (72 hours) leaves at 2pm and is back at 2pm on the fourth day, for a group that wants to fish hard, with time for every kind of ground the Tortugas offer; with calm weather, ask Captain Yuri about running out to Pulley Ridge, the deep reef beyond them.

Captain Yuri sets the trip up around the weather, the season and what your group wants: bottom fishing for black, red and gag grouper and mutton and yellowtail snapper, deep dropping, or trolling for wahoo, tuna, dolphin and sailfish. Summer and fall bring calm seas and the best snapper fishing, with dolphin in summer; the cooler months bring more and bigger grouper.

The price is for the whole boat and up to six anglers, with discounted rates from January through March. Bring your own food and drinks: the galley has a stove, microwave and grill, and when the weather allows the captain cooks breakfast and dinner, often with fish you caught that day.
